HMRC Updates List of Named Tax Schemes

It’s now 3 weeks since their last update, and HMRC’s list of named tax schemes today (24/11/22) sees the following added:

  • Charteris Management Ltd

Plus HMRC name several businesses linked to them, some of which were already listed:

  • Greenwich Contracts Limited
  • Griffith Anderson Limited
  • Howe Consultancy Limited (Incorporated in Isle of Man)
  • Integra Resourcing Limited (Incorporated in Malta)
  • Jeceris Limited
  • Ombros Solutions Limited
  • Taurus Limited (Incorporated in Isle of Man)

Tax schemes have a reputation for being sought by well-off people who want to pay minimal tax and maximise the efficiency of their money – this is a misconception. The reality is, these schemes often target average earners, such as NHS workers, who are feeling the pinch of wages not keeping up with inflation. Worse still, it’s usually the workers that are left with a huge backdated tax bill, not the scheme promoters.  If you want to understand potential consequences, check out what happened to victims of the loan charge scandal.

HMRC’s list is a start, but it simply doesn’t go far enough. We need proper action to eradicate these dubious schemes once and for all.

Contractors – as ever, do your due diligence and make sure you properly understand how you’re being paid. Remember, it’s your personal tax liability so you’re at risk of a big future tax bill. If you aren’t sure, feel free to give me a shout as I’m happy to help.

Agencies – make sure you know who you’re working with and recommending to your workers. Don’t just take things at face value! Make sure you do your own checks.
